Ten Injured in Three-Alarm Houston Apartment Fire

A three-alarm fire broke out about 3:15 a.m. at the Villages of Copperfield at 8727 Point Park Drive near Point Northwest Boulevard, said Capt. Dean Hensley of the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office. It destroyed 24 units, including Raney-George’s apartment, reports chron.com (http://bit.ly/1Ro9Sit)

Ten people, including a child and teenager, were injured after jumping from balconies to escape emerging flames, according to the Harris County Fire Marshall. Eight were taken to the hospital.

The injuries appear to be non-life-threatening.

Officials said the fire started when someone apparently fell asleep while smoking a cigarette.
