The two Fire Commentary articles by Greg Falkenthal and Jake Rixner simply couldn`t have hit the nail on the head any better. Both authors write about some issues that have been bothering some of us (I would hope most of us) in the fire service for quite some time, but how do we fix the problems? Hopefully, everyone in our industry will read these two articles; discuss them at staff meetings, officers` meetings, and union meetings; and try to put together a localized plan to deal with these issues. If we don`t, someday we will be wondering why we couldn`t even “save our own basement.”
