Yesterday, members of the Fire Department of New York (FDNY) marked the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Third Avenue Collapse, which killed six members in 1956. The department marked the loss with a plaque at the site dedicated to the memory of the fallen firefighters.
The fire on April 4, 1956, took the lives of Lieutenant John Molloy and Firefighters Edward Carroll and Fred Hellauer of Engine 48; Firefighters William Hoolan and Arthur Hanson of Ladder 44; and Firefighter Charles Infosino, aide to the Assistant Chief on scene, according to a release from the FDNY.
