A three-alarm fire at the Baltimore Domino Sugar’s massive raw sugar storage shed then entered the sugar refinery on a conveyor belt, reports The Baltimore Sun.
Officials said firefighters tried to enter the shed but were forced to fight the fire from outside due to the intensity of the smoke and flames.
All employees were able to evacuate the facility without assistance, and no injuries were reported.
Nearly two hours after the fire began, firefighters still were battling hot spots to gain full control of the fire.
According to the City of Baltimore Fire Department’s Twitter account, crews approaching had heavy fire and smoke was showing through the roof. Once firefighters gained entry, fire was showing from a silo that collapsed. Fire made its way on a conveyor belt and traveled midway thru the building. Baltimore fire boat was used for water supply.
