According to a report from WCIA, three Beardstown (IL) Fire Department (BFD) members were seriously injured after being forced to bail out of a second-story window after a large fire broke out at an apartment building after just before 8:40 p.m. Sunday night.

BFD officials said it was dispatched for a fire at 4th and Bay at around 8:38 p.m. Sunday night near an old hotel that was converted into an apartment building. Multiple departments from Cass and Morgan County also responded to the scene through a mutual-aid request.

On arrival, crews found heavy smoke coming from inside an apartment building. They also said that, as of 1:00 a.m. Monday morning, the fire has been contained and is currently under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.

Dave Bye of Lifestar Ambulance Company said that the three firefighters who bailed landed on their backs and were transported to a nearby hospital. There is no update on their conditions at this time.

BFD Chief Brian Becker said on-scene firefighters pulled one person out of the building who was trapped on the second floor. He did not give an update on the victim’s condition.
