Three Chicago Firefighters Hospitalized After Fire

Three firefighters hospitalized as a precaution after fighting a basement fire Friday in the Far South Side Morgan Park neighborhood are in good condition, reports The Chicago Sun-Times (

Crews were called to the fire in the home near 113th and Elizabeth streets about 2:30 p.m., Fire Media Affairs spokesman Joe Roccasalva said.

The fire started in a finished basement with several rooms, and one firefighter got lost in the smoke, Roccasalva said.

He ran out of air and made a “mayday” call for help. He got out of the building, and was taken in as a precaution to MetroSouth Medical Center in Blue Island, Roccasalva said.

Two other firefighters were taken to Roseland Community Hospital, also as a precaution, Roccasalva said. All three are in good condition.
