A woman and two young children are dead after a dwelling fire on a remote northern Ontario (Canada) First Nations reserve.
The Canadian Press reported (http://bit.ly/ZTRS5o) that the fire broke out Wednesday at about 9 a.m. in a house shared by multiple members of a family. The victims were a 21-year-old woman and her two nieces, aged six and one. The tight-knit reserve has a population of about 600 people.
Many residents of the reserve witnessed the fire, standing helplessly by as flames destroyed the residence. One man made several attempts to rescue the occupants, but in vain.
Officials with the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office were in the community Thursday to investigate.
