Three Escape Sauk Rapids (MN) Fire

A family of three was forced to flee their home after a fire, reports sctimes.com.

Around 6 p.m., firefighters were called after one of the occupants discovered the fire.

“They heard some different noises — popping and banging,” said Sauk Rapids Fire Chief Jason Fleming. “One of the occupants opened the garage door and there was a large fire inside.”

Arriving crews were met with heavy smoke and flames. Several fire trucks including a ladder truck were used to fight the blaze, which appeared under control shortly after 7 p.m. Fleming said the fire spread to the attic of the home, but they were able to contain the fire to the garage. He says the rest of the home was damaged by smoke.

Scott Neuber, whose mother lives in the neighborhood, said he and a friend helped get the family out of the home. He said they came out of the house without jackets, panicked, but two adults, a child and the family pets, including gerbils, all escaped unharmed.
