Four Injured in MI Apartment Explosion

A woman and three men were injured in an explosion at a single story Walled Lake (MI) apartment this morning. Investigators believe the explosion was accidental and due to natural gas.

According to a Detroit Free Press report (http://on.freep.com/yfZEBs), a victim stepped outside to smoke a cigarette and then reentered the apartment when the explosion occurred.

The local utility investigated the apartment and underground gas lines for a leak but didn’t find anything.

The woman, 26, and three men inside, two 19-year-olds and a 24-year-old, were all injured in the explosion. Two suffered very serious burns to their upper body and heads. They were transported to an area hospital with plans to move them to a regional burn center.

Firefighters evacuated the building when they arrived on scene. No other tenants were injured.
