“Yes. Because 3 white firefighters raised the flag, not 2 minorities and a white. Altering history cause it looks good should be against the law. Sure many different types of people from many different countries were killed in the WTC attack, but none of their people helped raise the flag, only 3 white American firefighters.”

“Yes. If you represent the event, show it accurately. There are countless photos from Sept. 11 of people of all races and genders helping one another; if its diversity you want there is plenty of material to choose from. But no image better captured the American
reaction to the event than the three firemen raising a flag in a candid tableau. The three happen to be white males. The New York Fire Department is over 96% white male. If you present a “colorized” version, you are misrepresenting history.
One New York Fireman stated he would take the saw from the truck and cut the statue in two if they took away the identities of the men involved. Personally, I’d like to buy him a beer when he got done.

“Yes, I am happy with the decision for historical accuracy. However, I think they should have another statue that represents ALL races and BOTH genders.”

“Yes, the statue should depict the moment as accurately as possible. To put anyone’s selfish agenda ahead of the truth, especially with regard to 9/11, is an embarassing display of some peoples’ priorities.”

“Yes. It’s unfortunate it has come to a racial debate, but the men who raised the flag deserve the credit.”

“Yes. Why should this be any different than the Iwo Jima flag raising scenario it resembles. Only the names of the participants are important to posterity, not someone’s idea of PC.”

“Yes. It’s history. If they change it to be ‘politically correct’ then it is no longer history, it then becomes fabrication, the figment of someone imagination.
P.S. I am a hispanic firefighter. Three white men did it and three white men should be on the ‘historical’ statue.”

“Yes. I believe that the statue should represent the history of that day, and not what some people think the history of that day should represent.”

“Yes. I think that it should be portrayed with historical accuracy, not PC!
If we weren’t so damned worried about hurting someone’s feeling or making a few waves, we
wouldn’t be dealing with a WTC disaster now because we would have stomped … Bin Laden and a bunch of other terrorists years ago and been done with it.
Let’s remember it as it was, work to make it the way it
should be and always remember those that gave all. Let’s be careful out there!”

“No, I’m not happy about the design. Why? Because police officers, emergency medical personnel, transit authority officials and other emergency personnel
were lost in this tragedy. Also, we cannot forget the countless civilians that were lost.”
