Tot-finder label explained

Tot-finder label explained

Charles R. Hampton

Fire Engineer

Winston-Salem (NC) Fire Department

In response to John Dreyfus (Letters to the Editor, June 1997), a captain I worked with taught me that the Tot-finder should point the way to the child`s bed. If the bed is across the room and to the left of the window, the tot-finder would go in the top left of the window. If the bed is directly below the window, the tot-finder would go in the center bottom of the window. Visualize laying the window down in the room, and then place the tot-finder over the bed. We know most deadly fires occur at night, so we need to locate the child`s bed as quickly as possible to help us meet our number-one priority of saving lives.
