Feb. 8—A trailer carrying motorcycles and nitrous oxide cannisters caught fire on Interstate 10 and exploded Saturday, damaging two nearby Metairie homes and possibly a passing car, according to Jefferson Parish and state officials.
Jefferson Parish spokesperson Gretchen Hirt said JPFD firefighters were called just after noon to I-10 West near Transcontinental Drive, where the trailer was engulfed in flames. When the trailer exploded, it damaged two homes on Arlene Street on the other side of I-10’s sound barrier, Hirt said.
Hirt said a passing car may also have been damaged in the explosion, which residents on social media said could be felt as far as Green Acres Road.
The fire was extinguished by 12:23 p.m., Hirt said. No injuries were reported.
