Two-Alarm Fire Damages Restaurant in VA

The City of Manassas (VA) Fire and Rescue Department and Chief Fire Marshal, Francis J. Teevan released the following incident report:

“On Monday July 25, 2011 at 1040 hours , fire and rescue units from the City of Manassas, Manassas Park, and Prince William County responded to a report of a fire at the Mi Cassita Restaurant at 8828 Centreville Road in the City of Manassas.

First arriving units found smoke coming from the roof of the building and flames in the exhaust ducts of the range hood over the rotisserie in the kitchen and inside a portion of the wooden roof framing.

The building has housed different restaurants over the years and has been remodeled several times resulting in additions to the original roof design.

Firefighters had to cut through void spaces and decorative roof components to extinguish the fire.

Employees of the restaurant told the Fire Marshal that they saw smoke coming from the range hood about thirty minutes after they turned on the gas-fired rotisserie and grill.

The probable cause of the fire is the ignition of grease that accumulated inside of the range hood and exhaust ducts.

Damage is estimated at $50,000. The restaurant will be closed until repairs are completed. There were no injuries reported.”
