Two-Alarm Fire Hits Famous Philadelphia (PA) Cheesesteak Restaurant

According to a report from NBC10, a two-alarm fire broke out at the popular Jim’s Steaks in South Philadelphia Friday morning.

The fire erupted shortly after 10 a.m. at the cheesesteak shop along 4th and South Streets, part of a four-story building. Heavy smoke was seen emanating from all four floors as firefighters knocked out windows.

Philadelphia Fire Department (PFD) crews looked as if they were focusing their attack on an HVAC unit by dousing it with water from above and below.

PFD firefighters were evacuated from the building and people in the vicinity were told to move back.

Jim’s manager said the air-conditioning had ceased working in the morning and then began to emit smoke. It was then that she told everyone to evacuate the building. No injuries have been reported.

The eatery has been a tradition in South Philadelphia since the 1930s.
