Two Badly Burned in Suffolk (VA) House Fire

Suffolk (VA) firefighters responded over the weekend to a house fire that left two people badly burned.

On Saturday, August 27, 2022, Suffolk Fire & Rescue responded to the 3600 Block of Sleepy Hole Road, in Driver, for a residential structure fire. Emergency Communications dispatched the incident at 12:38 a.m.

Engine 10, Medic 10, and EMS 2 arrived at 12:46 a.m. to find heavy fire and smoke showing from a large, two-story residential home. Two adults were outside the structure with critical burns when firefighters and medics arrived. Advanced Life Support care was provided by paramedics to the critically burned patients while additional firefighters initiated a fire attack on the structure.

Due to the distance off the roadway and the advanced care provided the two critically injured patients, the structure became well involved. Both patients were transported by ground to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with life-threatening injuries. One firefighter was injured and evaluated by paramedics.

The cause and origin of the fire is under investigation by the Suffolk Fire Marshal’s Office with Fire Marshal 1 leading the investigation.

Responding units included Car 1, Battalion 1, Battalion 2, Battalion 3, Engine 10, Engine 5, Engine 25, Ladder 11, Ladder 3, Ladder 6, Rescue 1, Medic 5, Medic 10, Medic 3, EMS 1, EMS 2, Safety 1, Tanker 1, Tanker 9, and Fire Marshal 1 and 6.

As of August 29, both burn victims remain in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

Though the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, the incident is believed to have been accidental in nature.
