Two Charged in KY Meth Lab Explosion

From NewsChannel5.com:

Nashville (TN) – Authorities said the two people accused in a meth-related explosion and fire that displaced 75 people at a Madison apartment complex tried to dispose of some of the evidence.

Metropolitan Nashville Police charged convicted felon 22-year-old Michael Drury and his 27-year-old girlfriend Kelly Wakefield with manufacturing methamphetamine and aggravated arson following the Saturday afternoon fire at the Alta Loma Apartments on Crestview Drive.

An affidavit said Wakefield was seen running out of the burning apartment and dumping evidence into a dumpster before going back inside the apartment.

Inside the dumpster, Fire Marshal investigators recovered a burned out plastic bottle with aluminum foil and acid inside. The bottle is believed to be an HCL gas generator, which is used in the final step of creating meth. They also found an empty lithium battery shell next to the bottle. Investigators said lithium metal is used to manufacture meth in the “one pot” method.
