Two Firefighters Injured at Jacksonville (FL) Fire

Two firefighters were hospitalized early Monday after battling a suspicious fire in a vacant home on Basswood Street in the Brentwood area, reports jacksonville.com.

Firefighters were called to the boarded-up home off Golfair Boulevard and North Main Street about 7:30 a.m. and were greeted with heavy flames visible from the second floor, according to spokesman Tom Francis. Crews made entry as they searched for victims after hearing there might be people inside. Then the fire expanded, Francis said.

“The flames began to consume other areas of the house,” Francis said.

The firefighters were ordered out as efforts to extinguish the fire continued outside, and it was called under control in 15 minutes, Francis said.

Two firefighters were sent to a hospital after paramedics determined they had injuries that were not smoke inhalation, Francis said.
