A single-vehicle accident in Mississippi killed two New Orleans (LA) Fire Department (NOFD) firefighters while they were off-duty on Monday, July 8.
Firefighters Tommy Ashby, 28, and Scott Blanchard, 27, died because of injuries sustained in the crash. Ashby was with the NOFD since September 2007 and Blanchard was with the NOFD since August 2010.
Both men volunteered to restore fire stations damaged in Hurricane Katrina, and were praised by the NOFD for their service.
