Two People Killed and Firefighter Injured in Maine House Fire

A couple in their late 60s was killed and a firefighter was injured in a house fire in Old Town, reports wcsh6.com (http://on.wcsh6.com/1IvmwTO)

The fire on Southgate Road killed Joseph Prekop, 67, and his wife, Adrienne Raff-Prekop, 68, said spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety, Stephen McCausland.

The fire started when the woman as smoking while using an oxygen tank, according to the State Fire Marshal’s Office.

McCausland said Raff-Prekop’s body was found in the living room and Prekop’s body was in his bedroom. They said the man had called 911 to report the fire, but apparently was overcome by smoke before he could get out of the house.

The house suffered heavy smoke and fire damage, McCausland said.
