Two Residents Critical After PA House Fire

According to a report from WTAE, a Shaler Township, Pennsylvania, house fire Tuesday night has left two people in critical condition at UPMC Mercy Hospital.

The house is located in the 1600 block of Burchfield Road. Allegheny County dispatch confirmed the fire started shortly after 9 p.m.

Shaler Villa Volunteer Fire Company Chief Dwayne Steinmetz said one resident was removed from the house prior to their arrival. The second victim was removed by firefighters.

The Allegheny County Police Department said one firefighter was also hospitalized. That member is now in stable condition.

Allegheny County Homicide detectives as well as the county Fire Marshal’s Office are now investigating the incident.

Burchfield Road was closed between Middle Road and Burchfield School. Ponderosa Drive and South Ponderosa are also blocked as of just after 10 p.m. Drivers are being told to avoid these areas.

Frank said several fire and paramedic crews were working to contain the fire and help with firefighter rehab.

No names have been released of those hurt. The county fire marshal has been notified.
