SCRANTON

Two city firefighters were injured battling a blaze at a wood pallet facility Wednesday evening, Assistant Fire Chief Brian Scott said.

Crews responded to 2121 Brown Ave. in the Plot Section around 10 p.m. for the report of a structure fire and encountered heavy smoke and fire upon arrival, Scott said.

As firefighters were working at the scene, one of the concrete block walls collapsed into the alley, he said. The siding of a neighboring house was also damaged, Scott added.

Some crews remained on scene until 7 a.m. Thursday morning, Scott said.

Scott said nobody was inside the facility when crews arrived and he noted the injuries to the firefighters are not considered serious.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by city fire inspectors, Scott said.
