TX Firefighters Respond to Overnight Chemical Spill

According to a report from ABC13, Houston (TX) Fire Department (HFD) crews were dispatched to a chemical spill at a facility that makes paint coatings in the northwest section of the city at 12:45 a.m. Thursday.

The spill was located inside AkzoNobel, a specialty paint maker on Antoine Drive, in a residential strip mall. HFD officials said the chemical in question was a type of solvent used in the paint manufacturing process.

The HFD said the surrounding communities are in no danger from the spill. No residents were evacuated and no roads were closed.

At the time of the spill, about two dozen AkzoNobel workers were evacuated.

HFD crewmembers said the alarms in the building went off when the chemical spill occurred. Fortunately, no one was hurt.

Fire officials waited for a clean-up contractor to arrive and take control of the scene. On arrival of the contractor, the HFD cleared the scene.
