USFA Administrator Brown lauds firefighter graduates

“Your accomplishments say a lot about where America is going. You represent hope U I commend you for what you have achieved,” Carrye B. Brown, administrator of the United States Fire Administration, told graduates of the Macomb Community College Basic Fire Academy in Clinton Township, Michigan, in May. After the commencement address and a tour of the Macomb Fire and Emergency Services Training Center, which houses the Basic Fire Academy, Brown participated in a roundtable discussion of federal initiatives with local fire officials. Among the national goals she identified included a five percent reduction in fire-related deaths, a 15 percent increase in departmental efficiency, and the recruiting and training of 300,000 new firefighters annually.
