USFA: Maryland On-Duty Death

To date, 55 firefighter fatalities have been reported to USFA in 2018.

The U.S. Fire Administration has announced the official on-duty death of Firefighter Nathan Flynn, 34, of the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services on July 23, 2018.

At approximately 0200hrs, Firefighter Nathan Flynn responded with Howard County Fire and Rescue crews to a large residential fire that began after a reported possible lightning strike. When crews arrived, heavy smoke was visible and firefighters began an interior attack on the home. While inside, Flynn fell through the floor and a Mayday was called. Flynn was quickly removed by the RIT team and taken to Howard County General Hospital where he passed away as a result of his injuries.
