USFA opens Y2K information center

The U.S. Fire Administration (USFA), part of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), has established a special project office to provide a network for finding and sharing Y2K answers for the fire service community, according to Carrye B. Brown, USFA Administrator.

The Y2K information center will collect and disseminate information on assessment tools, the readiness status of fire departments and 911 centers, problems and solutions, contingency planning, and rumor control. Information may be obtained by phone, mail, or e-mail. Referrals will be made to relevant Web sites and other fire departments. Fire department officials are encouraged to share their experiences in preparing for Y2K.

The Y2K Information Center may be reached by mail at 16825 South Seton Avenue, Emmitsburg, MD 21727 or by calling (301) 447-1328 between 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. EDT, Monday through Friday or through the USFA Web site: www.usfa.fema.gov/y2k/.
