The Las Vegas Firefighters donated $2,000 to Honor Flight of Southern Nevada on January 23, 2015 at the Veterans Memorial in Boulder City, Nevada. The money donated came from proceeds from their camouflage “Veterans Day” T-shirts, which were sold in early November.
Scott Johnson, president of the Las Vegas Firefighters, says, “We are proud to present this check to Honor Flight of Southern Nevada in honor of our local veterans. We are grateful to be able to help these veterans visit the memorials in Washington, D.C. This truly is an exceptional organization that will put the money towards a great, local cause.”
Honor Flight of Southern Nevada is a non-profit organization founded in June 2013, as a part of the national Honor Flight Network, created solely to honor America’s veterans for all of their sacrifices. HF is a volunteer based, local organization. Their mission is simple: to fly our World War II Veterans to Washington, D.C. to visit the memorials that stand in their honor.
The Las Vegas Firefighters is comprised of 628 full-time members and 209 retirees. They serve to protect a city that covers 133.25 square miles (including large Clark County “islands”), nearly 610,000 residents, and several million visitors each year. They serve under the Las Vegas (NV) Fire & Rescue, which is an Insurance Services Office (ISO) Class One Department and is an Internationally Accredited Agency by the Commission on Fire Accreditation International. Their mission is to promote community safety by protecting life, preventing loss, and providing support and relief for those in need.
