A veteran South King (WA) Fire & Rescue was injured at the scene of a rollover accident early Sunday when another vehicle lost control and struck him.
Wynn Loiland and two other firefighters were operating on the shoulder of Interstate 5, responding to a call about a pickup truck that had rolled over, according to a report from the Seattle Times (http://bit.ly/vynZTM). Loiland was struck by another vehicle and sustained severe head and facial injuries, a collapsed lung, and broken arm. He was transported to an area medical facility. Weather conditions may have contributed to the incident.
There have been a number of incidents in which firefighters were injured or killed while responding to vehicle accidents, and this tragic situation further underscores the danger firefighters and paramedics face when operating at vehicle incidents on roadways.
