WA Man in Serious Condition After Trying to Extinguish Apartment Fire

A Richland (WA) man went back into his burning apartment to try and extinguish the fire, then apparently was overcome by smoke and had to be rescued by firefighters, reports the Tri-City Herald (http://bit.ly/MfsfjB). The newspaper details that he is in serious condition.

The fire started in the man’s apartment and then spread to two units upstairs and into the attic. The cause is under investigation.

The apartment complex has an internal alarm system and fire alarms. Witnesses said the man never came back out after retrieving a fire extinguisher down the hall.

Witnesses alerted first-responding firefighters that the man was still inside.
