Detroit firefighters had to extricate a firefighter from the rubble of a house that collapsed on him during a fire Thursday afternoon. Several other firefighters were also injured in the incident.
The Fire Department responded to a house fire at a vacant home on 82 Hollywood Avenue near Seven Mile around 1:30 p.m. As they were extinguishing that fire, the building collapsed, trapping at least one of the firefighters under rubble. He called a Mayday and was successfully extricated, in a rescue caught on video.
One firefighter suffered a broken finger and a second was taken to the hospital as a precaution. The trapped firefighter was extricated around 3 p.m. and transported to the hospital as well. He is also expected to be fine.
Five other firefighters suffered injuries from heat exhaustion in the fire. The fire department suspects the fire was a case of arson,
