West Virginia Church Fire Complicated by Cold Weather

A late night church fire was further complicated by cold temperatures that froze fire hydrants, reports wchstv.com (http://bit.ly/1FHgJiY)

Grace Baptist Church on MacCorkle Avenue caught fire late Friday night while temperatures were in the single digits.

Members of the church said the closest hydrants were frozen solid, forcing fire crews to run hoses from hydrants blocks away.

Even with dealing with the frozen hydrants, fire crews were able to contain the fire to the attic where it started, leaving minimal damage.

Church trustee Larry Lewis said while the fire did not cause much damage, but the water damage to the church was extensive.

Parts of the atrium roof collapsed, leaving rubble on the church floor. Wooden planks on the main stage have bowed, and power was cut to the church.
