Multiple wildfires erupted on the south and southeast sides of Bexar County Tuesday, driven by strong winds and dry conditions. The fires prompted evacuations and damaged several structures.
Firefighters worked to control the fires, with the Duke Fire near Trumbo Road 90% contained by late in the day, while the Calaveras Fire near I-37 remained only 30% contained, WOAI reports.
One firefighter was injured battling the Duke Fire and was hospitalized, with their condition unknown. Evacuation orders were issued, and emergency shelters have been set up.
High winds challenged containment efforts. At least six structures were damaged by the fires.
Red flag warnings remained in effect for parts of Texas on Wednesday.
