Woman, Child Die in Manhattan (NY) Apartment Fire

According to a report from ABC7, a 36-year old woman and five-year-old girl were killed and the girl’s 46-year-old father is in critical condition after a raging fire that erupted in their Harlem apartment in Manhattan. Three dogs also died in the fire.

The three victims became trapped in their apartment at the Jackie Robinson Houses on East 129th Street after the fire broke out at around 2:45 a.m. Wednesday.

The father and his daughter were transported to Harlem Hospital, where the girl was pronounced dead. The woman was taken to Lincoln Hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

One firefighter and one building resident suffered minor injuries. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation, but firefighters did encounter an electronic bike that was on fire.

It is not known if the bike was the cause of the fire, but the New York City Housing Authority has been trying to ban e-bikes inside buildings to avoid such fires.
