Woman Found Dead in Pottsville (PA) House Fire

POTTSVILLE — An elderly woman succumbed to injuries in a deadly house fire Friday night, authorities said.

The Schuylkill County Coroner’s office was called to the fire at 1126 W. Arch St., part of a public townhome complex.

It took city firefighters about 15 minutes to contain the blaze, which was reported at approximately 9:22 p.m., according to Fire Chief James E. Misstishin Sr.

Misstishin said one occupant, an elderly woman, was found dead inside the home.

Schuylkill County Coroner David Moylan III was not available for comment on Saturday afternoon.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by state police and the Pottsville police and fire departments, Misstishin said.

A neighboring apartment, 1128 W. Arch St., sustained some smoke damage, while 1124 W. Arch St. had minor fire damage on the second floor, according to Misstishin.

Misstishin said two firefighters were transported to a hospital after they slipped on ice and fell.

Along with the Pottsville fire companies, the Schuylkill Haven Fire Department Rapid Intervention Team responded.

Crews remained on scene for about 45 minutes after extinguishing the fire for overhaul, Misstishin said.
