Dayton (OH) — A southwest Ohio woman, Tana Stewart, narrowly escaped a house fire that killed another woman and her teenage son.

Officials said the accidental fire at a Dayton duplex Thursday morning involved smoking and nonworking smoke detectors.

Stewart’s fiancee, 37-year-old Tia Strickland, and Strickland’s 15-year-old son, Ricky Turner, were identified as the victims.

Dayton Assistant Fire Chief Michael Caudill said Strickland and Turner likely died of smoke inhalation, but the coroner has yet to rule on the cause of death.
