WV Firefighter Gets 20 Years for Arson That Injured Colleague

James Luther Blackford, 31, was sentenced to 20 years in prison for starting a barn fire that badly injured another firefighter. Blackford, a former Bedington (WV) firefighter, was given an addition 15-year sentence (to be served concurrently) for causing injuries to volunteer fireighter Kenneth Ayers, who suffered serious injuries to his face, arms, and upper body when the barn collapsed on him during an April 2009 incident. Ayers also suffered a heart attack and nearly died.
