California Fire Chief Injured While Trying to Help Motorist

A Cal Fire (CA) battalion chief was hospitalized after being hit by a vehicle while helping a stranded motorist, according to a report.

The Press Enterprise (http://bit.ly/1LhfRAH) reported that Battalion Chief Casey Hartman came across a stranded motorist about 4:30 p.m. last Thursday.

The report said the stranded vehicle was partially blocking an eastbound lane of the roadway, so Hartman positioned his marked Cal Fire pickup truck behind the vehicle and activated warning lights.

A driver was reportedly traveling in the westbound lane at an unsafe speed in the rain. The report said that the driver lost control of her vehicle and smashed into Hartman’s truck; Hartman was transported to a hospital with moderate injuries.

The driver and stranded motorist were not injured, accoriding to the report.
