A Chicago (IL) Fire Department lieutenant has died as a result of West Nile virus.
Lt. Thomas Flahive, 58, of Engine Co. 108, died of the virus Thursday night, two weeks after he was bitten by a mosquito in Wisconsin, according to the Chicago Sun-Times (http://bit.ly/OaN9Hp). He leaves behind his wife, Mary Faith, and three adult children.
After being bit, the lieutenant started suffering from flu-like symptoms and went for treatment. He later slipped into a coma and suffered irreversible brain damage.
