“Some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, others make it happen.” –Michael Jordan
Are you making it happen? You are the bravest–you deserve to be your best. Many firefighters are wanting or wishing for things to happen, but starting today, you will be the one to make things happen.
You deserve to be your best and ultimately be FIT FOR LIFE. I have been blessed and privileged to coach many of our nation’s heroes just like you: What is that one, simple, disciplined thing that you will do every day to get where you need or want to be?
This is called the law of winning, baby. Time can work for you or against you, depending on whether you make the most of your time or waste it.
On the road to success for you as a firefighter and in life, this is the step where most first responders fail. Most first responders desire to be more and achieve more on and off the job; they know what they want, but very few have daily actions that line up with what they truly desire. Are your daily actions lining up with what you say you want?
What do you want? To improve your body? A better marriage? That promotion?
Once you know what you want, you then create a game plan and then put the Law of Winning into effect. Take your game plan and break it up into daily action steps.
By following those daily action steps, you will execute the game plan to get what it is you truly desire. Be very specific as you detail your action steps. For example, if you are a professional first responder and part of your game plan is to train to be in the best physical shape possible, your game plan must include hitting the gym and developing the right nutritional habits. Your daily action step will be something like, “I will train at the gym at 5:30 a.m. using the FFRonline training program for the day, and I will do this on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.” This action step answers the “What,” “When,” “Where,” and “How” questions. Be as specific as possible by listing exact times, locations, and step-by-step approaches that you will take to get it done. Compile a written itinerary of what, when, where, and how you will accomplish each daily component.
“If you want be something you’ve never been or have something you’ve never had, you better choose to do something every day that you have never done.”- Coach JC
Willie Mays once said: “In order to excel, you must be completely dedicated to your chosen sport. You must also be prepared to work hard and be willing to accept constructive criticism. Without a total 100-percent dedication, you won’t be able to do this.”
Each day before you lay your head on the pillow, ask yourself” “Did I win the day today?” The Law of Winning is all about dedication and commitment, my friend. It’s about self-accountability and self-constructive criticism. Mentally-tough first responders direct their time and focus on what is important to them in chasing their dreams and goals.
Today, to be FIT FOR LIFE, win the day with the Law of Winning.
List an area you want to be FIT FOR LIFE in, then consider your game plan. List the daily action step that you will take to execute the game plan. (Be specific…“What,” “When,” “Where,” and “How.”)
1. Area I desire to be FIT FOR LIFE in: Physical body
2. My “I WILL”: I WILL lose 30 pounds.
3. My “WHY”: To pass my PAT test by (insert date).
3. My game plan is: FFRonline.tv Training program of the day
My WIN THE DAY ACTION STEPS
How: Show up at gym.
When: I will do this at 5:30 a.m. on Monday, Wednesdaym and Friday each week.
Where: I will do this at the gym or station.
Just like you train your body, you train your mind. You won;t always believe you can win, which is why I created your WINNING CONFESSIONS. Sometimes you must talk yourself into believing who you are and what you will have in life.
I AM THE FINEST. I AM THE BRAVEST. I HAVE A PURPOSE. I AM HERE ON PURPOSE. I AM FOCUSED. I AM DEDICATED. I MAKE THINGS HAPPEN. I will take action today. I WILL WIN THE DAY! I am FIT FOR DUTY. I AM FIT FOR LIFE.
