22 Oil Cars Destroyed
Twenty-two tank cars of the Texas & Pacific Railroad were destroyed in a wreck and fire near Abilene, Tex. The crew escaped injury. However, the fire occurred at a point where there was no water supply, and all the firemen could do was to police the grounds.
Thirteen of the derailed cars contained oil. Earth dikes were thrown up around the fire, to prevent the oil from flowing away. Some of the cars were pulled away from the fire grounds and were saved.
