A New Nozzle for Handling Difficult Fires
A new type nozzle, known as the New York nozzle, has just been placed on the market, designed by a member of the New York Fire Department for use in handling floor, ceiling, cornice and other fires that are hard to get at with ordinary nozzles and that give firemen so much trouble. Usually with the ordinary nozzle a heavy line is very difficult, or in fact impossible, to manipulate in trying to spread water through a small opening to cover the whole burning area. The New York nozzle can be gotten through the smallest opening and turned in any way by a special handle. This nozzle simply replaces the tip of the shut-off nozzle and can be put on in less than a minute, eliminating the necessity of turning off the water at the engine or hydrant. The accompanying photograph shows the method of attaching the New York nozzle. At the left it shown screwed on to the shut-off nozzle in place of the tip and ready” for action; the other view shows the two nozzles separated.
