A New Service Box
The S. E. T. Valve & Hydrant Company, of 50 Church street. New York City, has recently put on the market a new device for the better protection of gas and water service cocks. This is called the perfect curb box. It is claimed for this box that the special features of its construction distinguish it from the ordinary box on the market, in that the valve case is a complete enclosure, consequently a departure from the design of the ordinary curb box and does afford protection to the valve which cannot be obtained otherwise. The double cover at the top is another special feature which the manufacturers claim is a decided addition to the protective features of the perfect curb box. The frequency of broken or lost curb box covers is more or less unavoidable. but the consequent filling up of the box and rendering the service cock inoperative can be avoided by a supplementary protection at the top and this is accomplished by their inside or secondary cover. The box is telescopic to make it adjustable to different depths and to allow for expansion due to frost upheavals, leaving the serv ice cock undisturbed, Several different models are shown in the catalogue A, which is a very complete affair with its full descriptive matter, specifications, prices, etc. There are special types for lead and iron pipe connection and different types for different localities. It can be used with a special patent telescopic extension valve rou or with any other type of extension rod or long wrench to suit the preference of the user.
It is claimed for this box that it should enlist the interest of fire departments as well as water and gas companies, for the reason that the absolute protection which the box gives to the service cock insures quick accessibility in cases of emergency.
