A. P. Smith Company Builds Large Plant.
The A. P. Smith Manufacturing company, of Newark, N. J., are maturing plans for moving their works to East Orange. They will erect a large factory, it is reported, which will employ between 4,5000 and 5,000 hands. In its manufacture of waterworks supplies the Smith company has become crowded for room and to provide for expansion a different location is necessary.
The plans as filed with the building inspector call for six buildings, all of either reinforced concrete or brick construction. The main buildings will be two, one of dimensions 80×140 ft. and 1-story in height and the other of 3 stories and 100×140 ft. The estimated cost as given to the building inspector is $87.000. The architect is Fred A. Phelps, of Newark. and William Steele & Sons company, of Philadelphia, has the construction contract.
Only five fire alarms were turned in to the central department of Elyria, O.. during the month of July. The total loss was $518.
