Action Training Systems desire to support firefighter training and EMS training success goes beyond the classroom. They understand the infinite need for training and are also aware of budget cuts and department layoffs due to the current state of the economy. Action Training Systems’ goal is not only to provide their customers with the best available training content and delivery, but to be a resource to help make their products attainable.
As stated on their website, the Federal Emergency Management Association’s (FEMA) mission is to support citizens and first responders by ensuring that as a nation we work together to build, sustain, and improve our capability to prepare for, protect against, respond to, recover from, and mitigate all hazards.
A number of grants are available each year to help fulfill FEMA’s mission. These grants are awarded to fire departments and other first responders to increase their ability to protect the public and fire service personnel from fire and related hazards. Available Grants include Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG), Fire Prevention and Safety Grants (FP&S) and Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response Grants (SAFER).
Every year since 2001, the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) has been available to fire departments and non-affiliated emergency medical service organizations. The AFG program has made it possible for firefighters and other first responders to obtain critically needed training, equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles and other necessary resources. The opportunity to apply for these grants opens doors that may have otherwise been closed due to lack of funding.
Each fire department or medical service organization is expected to go through an extensive application process. With nearly 20,000 applications each year and limited funds available, there is an increase in competition for the AFG program. Fire departments spend a great deal of time to make their application stand out from the crowd and score well during the evaluation process.
An appropriation of $810 million has been approved for FY 2011. Half of that amount will support Fire and EMS Operations and Safety Grants, Firefighting and Emergency Vehicle Grants and Fire Prevention and Safety Grants (FP&S).
Action Training Systems encourages departments to apply for a grant if you have not yet started the application process. Grants are awarded based on need. Whether your department is a volunteer, paid, urban, rural, large or small, you have an equal opportunity to be awarded a grant. Action Training Systems realizes the importance of winning these grants and they want your department or organization to be successful.
The Federal Emergency Management Association (FEMA) has just extended the application period by one week—it now runs from August 15th through September 16th, 2011. This means departments have an extra week to work on their application.
Although employees of ATS are not qualified to provide departments with help on their applications, they do have links to various resources including a number of grant writers. These grant writers are unaffiliated with Action Training Systems, but have been extremely successful with helping departments write their narratives and complete their application.
