Alleghany County Firemen’s Convention
The annual convention of the Alleghany County Firemen’s Association, of Pennsylvania, took place in Natrona, Pa., on July 6 and 7. A parade was one of the features of the convention, and field and track meets also were held, including hose carts, hook and ladder races and the championship water battle. The convention marked the close of the celebration of Old Home Week in Harrison township, which began on June 30. The program included a carnival every evening at the ball field. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: President, W. C. Shuman, Etna; Vice-President, A. Traenkner, Natrona; Secretary, A. H. Leek, McKees Rocks; Treasurer, Mark Roberts, Carrick.
Chief Hines Re-elected Head of Sewer Department—Chief William J. Hines, of the fire department of Thompsonville, Mass., who has served for twenty-five years on the sewer commission, recently requested the board of sewer commissioners to elect some one in his place as head of the board. After giving the chief a rising vote of appreciation of his services, the board re-elected him for another term of three years.
