An Important Suit Against a Water Company.

Advices from Topeka, Kan., state that a bill has been filed in the United States Circuit Court by George P. Westcott of Portland, Me., and Samuel Hanson, Boston, against Joseph Mulvane of Topeka, the Topeka Water Company, the Topeka Water Supply Company, Coffin and Stanton of New York, and the Atlantic Trust Company of New York, to enjoin them from carrying out the negotiation of new stock bonds secured by a new mortgage upon the Topeka water works; for the appointment of a receiver, and the specific performance of written contracts made by Mulvane, the owner and the holder of the entire stock of the Topeka Water Supply Company at Boston, on December 14 last, whereby Mulvane, it is claimed, sold to the plaintiffs, Westcott and Hanson, the entire stock of the company, to wit: Four thousand shares for $500,000.

Mulvane, it is alleged, refused to perform the contract, and started the new company, and was about negotiating a new mortgage through Coffin & Stanton, and this suit was then filed, the court granting a restraining order returnable on the I2th day of February.
