Annual Convention of the Massachusetts State Firemen’s Association
On September 17, 18 and 19 the Massachusetts State Firemen’s Association held its annual convention at Worcester, Mass., there being a good attendance of members of the association and visitors. The meetings were held in the Knights of Columbus Building, and the convention was called to order by President W. E. Cade at 2.30 P. M. on Wednesday, September 17. After an address of welcome by Mayor P. G. Holmes, of Worcester, Chief W. N. Avery, of the local department, and J. F. Southgate, chairman of committee on fire department, also addressed the meeting. There were an unusual number of very interesting papers on pertinent fire department subjects read by members of the fire service and others. On Thursday evening a memorial service was held for those comrades who had passed over during the year, with musical selections by a quartet and an address by Hon. Joseph Warner, speaker of the Massachussetts House. The convention was voted a great success and was thoroughly enjoyed by those present.
