Fire in the United States caused an estimated loss of $335 million in April of this year, an increase of some $100 million, or 42.6 percent, above the April 1974 level, it was reported by the Insurance Services Office.

Estimated fire losses in the United States during April amounted to $77,933,000, it was reported by the National Board of Fire Underwriters.

According to Lewis A. Vincent, NBFU’s general manager, this $77,933,000 loss represents an increase of 15.7 per cent over losses of $67,362,000 reported for April, 1953, and a decrease of 8.1 per cent from losses of $84,821,000 for March, 1954.

Losses for the first four months of 1954 now total $328,175,000 an increase of 9.3 per cent over the first four months of 1953, when they amounted to $300,198,000.

These estimated insured losses include an allowance for uninsured and unreported losses.
