Arkansas Association’s New Officers

The officers elected at the annual convention of the Arankasas State Firemen’s Association, which was held at Little Rock, Ark., on September 25 and 26, were as follows: Chief Chas. S. Hafer, Little Rock, president; Chief G. E. T Umbaugh, Springdale, first vice-president; Assistant Chief John Dixon, Forth Smith, second vice-president; Chief R. V. Herndon, Hope, third vice-president; Captain Harry N. Files, Little Rock, secretary-treasurer. Trustees: Chief J P. Grant, DeQueen; Chief E. A. Butler, Russellville; Fire Marshal Tom N. Cain, Hot Springs. Legislative Committee: Fire Inspector John F. Kerwin, Little Rock; Tom N. Cain, Hot Springs; G. E. T. Umbaugh, Springdale, and Chief J. M. Hall, Van Buren.

Clyde La Rose, chief of the Port Arthur, Tex., fire department, has just completed a series of practice lessons in life saving and rescue work for the benefit of the fire department at Poplar Bluff, Mo. According to Walter Moore, chief at Poplar Bluff, his men are now able to cope with any emergency. One of the important features of Chief La Rose’s instruction was artificial respiration. He also showed the Poplar Bluff firemen effective holds for carrying unconscious victims down ladders.
