Atlanta, Ga., had 1,113 alarms last year, according to the annual report of Chief W. B. Cummings. There were 847 telephone; 242 bell; 18 verbal; 4 automatic, and 2 still alarms. The total loss was $346,014 in property valued at $6,676,865 and insured for $5,247,910. The insurance loss was $322,109. The number of fires with a less loss than $50 was 560, between $50 and $100 fifty-one, between $100 and $500, one hundred and seven, between $500 and $1,000, thirty-nine, between $1,000 and $3,000, thirty-one and over $3,000, eight. The most fires were in November, 167, the fewest in July, 52. These were 791 fires in frame buildings, 171 in brick and stone buildings, 27 automobiles, 11 cars, 6 telephone poles, 1 tent and 1 motorcycle. The cost of department maintenance was $258,597.59. His principal recommendation is for more motor apparatus.
