Australia Fire Sweeps 1,000 Sq. Miles
Strong winds fanned a fire which broke out in the state of Victoria, Australia, to a blaze of major proportions, which spread over 1,000 square miles, on January 14 and made a large number homeless. It is claimed more than 30 lives were lost and large tracts of timber, and property destroyed. Because of the large timber losses in Victoria, it is believed that there will be an acute timber shortage in the state.
